Wellness & Vaccinations

 

Our wellness care program for your pet includes:

 

• Wellness exams (once or twice a year)

• Annual blood work

• Examining fecal samples to check for parasites 

• Preventive vaccinations

 

On your first visit, a technician will take a complete history of your pet’s health and a physical examination will be completed by a veterinarian. Our exam times are 30 minutes, with extended appointments available for multiple pets or complicated cases.  

 

The exam is done to ensure the health of your animal before we administer appropriate vaccines. Each vaccination protocol is tailored to your animal's needs, based on their health, age, and risk. Not all vaccines need to be given every year, which is why it is important to select what is best for your animal. 

 

In addition to vaccines, your pet’s preventative treatment program may include deworming (including heartworm prevention), flea prevention, lyme/heartworm/tick-borne disease testing for dogs and feline leukemia/FIV testing for cats. This is especially important if they go outside. Lyme disease is increasingly becoming a problem in New Brunswick.

 

Because animals age much faster than we do, we recommend that each pet receive an exam once a year, and for senior pets (those over 7 years) up to two times per year. When you consider that pets age roughly seven years for every year people age, bringing your pet in for an exam once a year would be equivalent to you seeing your doctor once every 7 years!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Digital Radiology

 

We have a digital x-ray system that allows us to take images quickly and efficiently, giving immediate image review.  We’re able to show you your pet’s radiographs in the exam room so you can see what is happening. If required, we electronically refer complex cases to a board-certified radiologist affiliated with the Atlantic Veterinary College. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Senior Pets

 

Once a pet has reached the stage of life we consider senior (usually age 7, but the age may vary depending on species and breed), there is an increased possibility that changes may be occurring in your pet that may lead to illness. By screening your pet before he or she shows signs of being sick, we can keep that pet healthy, feeling good, and living longer. 

 

Senior pet exams should include a full exam, mobility evaluation, blood work and urine testing. Often changes in diet or supplements are all that is required in order to prevent potential conditions such as liver or kidney disease, obesity, arthritis, and many other conditions. As your pet ages, more frequent exams are also recommended. Changes in condition can happen more quickly, so visits to your veterinarian may increase from once a year, to twice.
